First: For having when a prisoner on a General Parade at Portobello Barracks, Dublin, on or about the 19th Nov 1860, after the promulgation of his Court Martial, struck with his clenched fist on the breast [when handcuffed] Sergeant Arthur Cowperthwaite of the 4LD he, the said Sergeant Arthur Cowperthwaite being his Superior Officer, and then and there in the execution of his office.
Second: For having on or about the date and place [as specified in the first charge] made use of abusive language to the officers of the 4LD when on the aforesaid General Parade, in having said, `You are a set of ___ ___ ___ ___ ___ ___ ___ I would beat the ___ first if I hadn't these handcuffs on.'
Third: For having when confined in the Military Prison at Athlone on or about the 20th Nov 1860, struck with his clenched fist on the arm of Staff Surgeon Montgomery of the 12th Depöt Battalion, the M/O on duty at the Prison, to the said Staff Surgeon Montgomery being his Superior Officer, and then and there in the execution of his office.
To which charges the Prisoner pleaded guilty.
Opinion: The Court having maturely weighed and considered the evidence in support of the Prosecution together with what the Prisoner has urged in his defence, are of opinion, with regard to the First Charge that the Prisoner, No. 1985 Private George Goodey of the 4LD is Guilty. With regard to the Second Charge, that he, the Prisoner, No. 1985, Private George Goodey of the 4LD is Guilty. With regard to the Third Charge, that he, the Prisoner, No. 1985, Private George Goodey of the 4LD is Guilty.
Sentence: The Court having found the Prisoner Guilty of all the charges preferred against him, which being in breach of the Articles of War, and taking into consideration his former convictions and general very Bad Character, do now sentence him, the Prisoner, No. 1985, Private George Goodey of the 4LD to undergo a Penal Servitude for a term of 10 years, such Penal Servitude to commence at the expiration of the imprisonment to which he has already been sentenced by Court Martial.
The Judge Advocate General humbly submitted to Her Majesty to approve and confirm the finding and sentence of the Court. ...Confirmed by the Queen on 07 02 1861
