DESCRIPTION - Mate in Sail was written by a sea captain, one of the last of his breed now living and writing about the great sailing ships and the men who worked them. Captain Gaby brings these men and their era to life again as they climbed the high masts, fought high wind and weather, brawled and died. He tells the story of his life as a sailor and later as an officer. It is the men who make this book live and the magnificent combination of sea art, living history, and human insight make it a unique event in Australian publishing. There are over 100 illustrations including full-colour paintings, and archival photographs.
