DESCRIPTION - The first in a long series of fleet lists of merchant shipping companies both British and foreign. This book describes the ships owned by P&O, Orient Line, and Blue Anchor. There is a chronology of the main events in the history of each company, and detailed illustrated Fleet Lists with numerous scale profile drawings (150 feet to the inch) of almost every vessel from early paddle steamers and tugs to luxury passenger liners and giant tankers. The demise of Blue Anchor Line before the First World War was hastened by the tragedy of their passenger ship Waratah which mysteriously disappeared without trace homeward-bound from Australia in 1909. As with all the books in this series, the author provides an invaluable source of reference.
