DESCRIPTION - An amazing collection of sailing vessel photographs from the Edwardes Collection in the South Australian State Library, it depicts the wind ships once numerous in Australian and NZ waters. The eight chapters cover voyages from Britain to the Antipodes, trades and cargoes, savage coasts, ship construction, Australian, NZ and Pacific ports, concluding with a selection of beautiful ship photographs. Parson's text is minimal, but extended captions provide adequate information. In addition to ships, the men who sailed them and life aboard is not overlooked.
