DESCRIPTION - This book is a translation of `On Se Bat Sur Mer,' or `Sea Fights,' which was published in 1927 and awarded the Literary Prize for that year. The author Commandant Chack of the Historical Department of the French Admiralty produced an engrossing volume based on incidents in the Great War. He shows the three great allied navies: British, Italian and French, raising, side-by-side, the formidable floating barricade; set up against the limitless ambitions of continental tyrants. Part One gives a graphic account of the exploits of Nord-Caper, a trawler engaged in hunting submarines, and touches on the French cruiser Submarine Sercouf. Part Two covers naval battles off German East Africa including the search and destruction of the Koenisberg among the mangrove swamps of the Rutigi River. And Part Three features the saving of the Suez Canal by the French Navy and seaplanes in February 1915 after an assault by the Turks.
