DESCRIPTION - The Sailing Ships of The New Zealand Shipping Company 1873-1900. The New Zealand Shipping Company was one of the first lines to establish a regular service between England and New Zealand - the longest sea trade route in the world. The sailing ships owned by The N.Z.S. Co. between 1873 and 1900 had a splendour and a grace which cannot be matched by their motor driven successors. Alan Bott here provides not only the authoritative history of these elegant vessels but also evokes the excitement of life under sail, with the help of such items as the ships' logs, passengers' diaries, menus and newspaper reports.
