DESCRIPTION - The aim of this book is to provide the reader with a background history of each company which engaged in the United Kingdom - Continental - New Zealand trade, whether it be British or foreign, and to trace the development of the many and varied designs of the ships which were employed on this route. Individual histories, describing the careers of the ships which have served New Zealand since World War II, are given in full. So that it may also be a work of reference, all main particulars of the vessels in the present fleets of the British Conference Companies are given, as well as fleet lists with details of ships each company has ever owned. The book is profusely illustrated with over 150 coloured and black and white photographs. By reference to these alone, the development of the ships which have served New Zealand for over a century can be easily traced.
