DESCRIPTION - This volume examines the passenger ships that linked New Zealand with Australia, the Pacific Islands and, at times, North America for a century as well as NZ ports coast-wise. Many of the company's ships were household names throughout NZ as they were often the mainstay of travel. Brewer has selected 37 ships for inclusion and the text for each is accompanied by a photograph and in some case several internal pictures or images related to the vessel. Each account describes the ship, its service with the company, details of incidents or interesting events in its career and its eventual fate. A fleet list of the company's passenger ships (Appendix II) gives technical details and statistics.
