CONDITION - Hardback first edition of Volume 1, in good condition. Green paper boards are clean, though faded at spine and slightly bumped at corners, and binding is tight. Endpapers are clean bar one 5mm rustmark at the top of the front endpaper and a small biro mark "2203" , with no other foxing except a little on the page edges. This is a good copy of a now scarce book. No dustwrapper.

DESCRIPTION - This is the story of the pioneer steamers that traded around the New Zealand coast and visited our shores from overseas during the period 1840-1861. Large numbers of ships are covered in detail in relation to the colony's historical and economical development. It is widely illustrated with paintings and sketches by H.C. Berry.
