I have had the honor to lay before the Commander in Chief your letter dated 27th Ultimo, transmitting a List of Seven Troop Horses belonging to the 4th Queen's Own Light Dragoons which have been inspected by Major General His Royal Highness Prince George of Cambridge, and which are considered unfit for further Military Service.
In reply to which I am directed to acquaint you, that His Grace approves of these Horses being cast and disposed of according to such directions as shall be given by the Secretary at War.
I have the honor at the same time to transmit for your information and guidance the enclosed copy of a letter dated 1st Instant which I have received from Major General Brotherton to whom the Report of these Horses has, by His Grace's direction, been referred, previously to an authority being given for their being disposed of.

The mistake originated with the Regiment, and Lt Colonel Lord George Paget's Letter is herewith returned, in order that the same may be amended.

I have had the honor to receive and lay before the Commander in Chief your letters of the 6th, 7th and 9th Instant, with their several Enclosures, containing Reports of the number of Horses specified in the margin, belonging to the several Regiments to therein named which are considered unfit for further Military Service.
In reply to which I am directed to acquaint you, that His Grace approves of the number of Horses therein specified being cast, and disposed of according to such directions as may be given by the Secretary at War.
I am at the same time directed by His Grace to transmit to you the enclosed copy of a letter dated 15th Instant which I have received from Major General Brotherton, Inspector General of Cavalry, and I am to acquaint you, that His Grace entirely concurs in the opinion of the Major General that the system of gradually casting Horses and providing Remounts will be more conducive to the efficiency of the Cavalry, than of allowing the unserviceable Horses to accumulate, as in the case of the 4th Dragoons, it being clearly understood however, that no Horses are to be cast, except upon rhe judgement of a General Officer.
