Mr. Almao, who founded this business in 1870 in Dunedin, hails from Italy where he was a volunteer officer under Garibaldi from 1859 to 1862, and assisted in the formation of United Italy. After many years' experience in the trade in that city, in Christchurch, and in Invercargill, the business was removed to Wellington in 1895. The firm occupy a large double-fronted shop in a central position in Lambton Quay, the windows presenting an attractive appearance. An engraving of Mr. V. Almao, the founder of the business, is given herewith.
